Occasionally the media reports about viruses that are sent with fake sender addresses. Often big companies and public authorities are affected that are generally trusted by Internet users. We would like to point out that the Federal Environment Ministry never sends out attachments with the extensions ".exe" or ".com".

On some pages you have the possibility to enter personal or business data (e. g. e-mail addresses, names, postal addresses, etc.). The disclosure of this data is voluntary. 5. E-mail Communication

Security gaps can occur in e-mail communication. An e-mail sent to the Environment Ministry staff can be intercepted and read by experienced Internet users. If you send an e-mail to the Ministry (e. g. by completing the contact form), we assume that we are authorised to reply by e-mail.

6. Privacy Policy

Every access to the Environment Ministry's website will be stored on the web server as a protocol file for a maximum of 2 hours exclusively for the purpose of data security. After this time the data will be anonymised using a random letter or number code and will then be stored in an archive for a maximum of 6 months. The protocol file includes the following data:

  • files accessed
  • date and time of access
  • volume of data transferred
  • notice whether data was successfully accessed
  • IP address of the user or provider
  • Internet address of last Internet page visited (referrer)
  • information about the programme recalling data (user agent)

The data stored will not be used for statistical purposes. We do not pass on this data to third parties, neither for commercial nor for non-commercial use. The BMU's website does not use cookies (see also 7. Cookies) or other technologies to trace the users' access habits. Data from the protocol files will not be combined with data collected from other pages of our website for which a disclosure of personal information is requested.

It is impossible and excluded to identify you by the IP number from the protocol file. An IP address will only be analysed in case of an attack on the Internet infrastructure of the Federal Environment Ministry, in case of an infringement of the public order or in other cases of illegal actions in connection with the website. An analysis of the IP number to reveal the identity of the user can only be made by the provider used and only if a prosecutor institutes an investigation. If personal information is necessary to use a service on this website, your active participation will be requested. Only the data necessary to process a request will be asked of you. Data is treated as confidential and will be used only within the framework of data protection law and for the purpose for which it was requested. If storing personal data (e. g. name, address, e-mail address) is needed to provide a certain service, the data will be stored only for the time period necessary to handle the request or to fulfil the task of the Environment Ministry for which the data was requested. If an offer is terminated or a user unsubscribes to an information service (e. g. a mailing list), personal data will be cleared irrevocably after a maximum of 6 weeks.

You can access the website and make full use of it without accepting cookies. We do not use cookies or other technologies to retrace your access.

8. User's right to information

Pursuant to §§ 19 - 20 Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG), as a user of the Environment Ministry's website you have the right to request information on the kind and volume of data stored during your visit at any time. On request, the information will be provided to you according to your interest concerning such information. This service is provided free of charge.
